Agassiz Harrison Museum & Visitor Information Centre

August 21, 2010

A well kept secret situated in the heart of downtown Agassiz in Pioneer Park is the local Museum and Visitor Information Centre.

Our heritage is prominently featured, displaying the small rural spirit that abounds our community.

The museum holds a wealth of local history relating to the District of Kent and Harrison Hot Springs.

Housed in the original Canadian Pacific Railway Station built in 1893, making it one of the oldest existing wooden stations in British Columbia.

A community rich in agricultural history is prominently displayed.

The main gallery was originally the freight shed, where local fruit, vegetables, freight and animals waited for the train to ship them into the city.

Learn about the “Agassiz local” milk train, the acres of hop yards that first covered the community before dairy became the prominent agricultural industry in the district.

See the photographs of the 1948 flood that devastated the entire Fraser Valley

The history of transportation of boats that piloted Harrison Lake all the way to Port Douglas to the once thriving community along the Gold Rush trail at the northern tip of the lake.

See our large collection of First nation baskets, and tools.

Pioneer Park provides a heritage of large shade trees that compass the one side of the downtown core of the small community of Agassiz.

Need help finding your way around our community?  Our knowledgeable volunteer hosts will gladly take the time to assist you with information on many local venues and area throughout the province.

Our gift shop offer crafts, collectibles and books featuring local artists and authors.

Volunteers will take you through the old station showing the history of the local communities as life was.

We hope you enjoy your leisurely bike ride along our country roads and your times spent in our community.
