Fraser Valley Duck and Goose

April 19

The Falk family own and operate Fraser Valley Duck and Goose.  Ken Falk is the son of Abe Falk, patriarch of one of the most influential farming families in the Fraser Valley.  The Falks have deep roots in agriculture stretching over the past century.  The Falk family moved to the Fraser Valley in the 1970’s. At that time they were involved in dairy farming, poultry farming, and hog farming.  In the late 60’s they were one of the largest raspberry growers in the Fraser Valley. Ken grew up on the family’s egg farm and developed a real passion for raising poultry which he has done ever since.  In 1998, he started on his most audacious agriculture adventure—the purchase of Fraser Valley Duck and Goose.

The Falks have developed breeder flocks to grow a leaner duck that is the size that people most prefer.  Their breeder flocks lay the eggs and the eggs are hatched on farm. The ducks are raised in free run grower barns.  They no longer have their tame breeder flocks of geese, a flock that would follow Grandfather Falk around the farm.  But their current goose flock is free run and they enjoy both indoor and outdoor quarters.  Ken also developed a processing plant to prepare the birds for market. Several trucks deliver their products into Vancouver six days a week.  With so many different facets, many of the family members have become involved, from gathering eggs, to working in the hatchery or processing plant.  It truly is a family business with all five children helping out on the farm while they were growing up.  Two of the grown sons now are making the farm their profession.

Ken, never one to back down from a challenge, took on the challenge of raising the only domestic flock in the world of “Tinamou” (from UBC after the Avian Flu crisis).  This unique bird from South America is part of the Emu family. It is very small, being just under a pound, and with all white meat, very tender and tasty.  You can learn about this most unique of poultry birds on the BIKE THE BLOSSOMS tour.

Fraser Valley Duck and Goose also raise specialty chicken, in particular, the Loong Kong chicken, cherished by Asians as a traditional chicken that tastes like home.

New FVDG products that are being introduced; Duck Farmer Sausage, Lean Ground Duck, Tinamou, & Loong Kong chicken.

Based on Family Values, Highest Quality, and Customer Service it is no surprise that Fraser Valley Duck and Goose is the leader when it comes to Ducks & Geese.
