Westham Island Herb Farm
April 19
Westham Island Herb Farm is a unique farm located in Ladner just 35 minutes from downtown Vancouver. Visiting the tranquil country setting of Westham Island is like stepping back in time to quiet country roads and good neighbors. Hard to believe this is literally minutes from the hub-bub of the city.
The farm sells herbs, organic vegetables, bedding plants, jellies, soaps and crafts. Sharon started her farm fourteen years ago on her family farm. This family farm, started by her great-grandfather, a dairy farmer, originated in 1916. Her great-grandfather’s farm sold hay and oats to feed logging horses on Vancouver Island. The hay was loaded onto freight boats that came right to the dock on the farm. The original barn from that era is still on the farm.
Sharon’s farm has u-pick pumpkins in the fall and has a magnificent display of carved pumpkins at Halloween. Sharon grows over 20 varieties of pumpkin and squash. She also grows cutting flowers. She has pumpkin honey produced right on the farm from their bees. She grows all the garden vegetables and has at least six varieties of potatoes including the super sweet fingerlings. As well, Sharon has numerous varieties of herbs for sale.
Sharon Ellis harvests her vegetables and those of other local farmers when they are most tasty and nutritious, when they are at their peak! They are not stored or transported great distances. She also sells handmade craft products and frequently hosts events which allow businesses to promote these great items. These are the result of the experience, hard-work and talent of members of our farming and craft community that the Ellis’s feel should not go unnoticed! Stop in today, help support our locals and see what great things they have to offer!
