Wildlife viewing & walking trails.
The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve is a 130-hectare site (325 acre) located on the un-dyked floodplain of the Vedder River in Chilliwack and is known for a large breeding colony of Great Blue Herons, excellent wildlife viewing and lovely walking trails.
The Great Blue Heron is one of the most distinctive North American birds. During the breeding and post-breeding seasons it ventures as far north as Newfoundland and Prince William Sound in Alaska, and as far south as Mexico and the West Indies. However, coastal herons do not migrate and depend entirely on wetland habitat in the Lower Mainland and on Vancouver Island for their survival. The Coastal Great Blue Heron is considered at risk and requires our significant conservation efforts to ensure the long-term viability of its population.
The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve Society is a non-profit organization whose mandate is to operate a nature interpretive centre within the Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve. The centre’s programs are designed to broaden the community’s awareness and appreciation for the natural and historical values of the Reserve through research, exhibits, tours and educational programs for the benefit of the Chilliwack and area community.

The Great Blue Heron Nature Reserve site includes:
Beautiful Rotary Interpretive Centre
