Countryside Soap Shack

Come visit this countryside soap shack and learn about the soap making process!  All natural, handmade on site using original recipes – the Rustic Soap Company line of products includes soy candles, hemp & goats milk soaps, lotions, bath bombs and more.

Tawnya started making soap in 1999. At the time, her young son suffered from sensitive skin and eczema, and Tawnya soon discovered that conventional soaps may have been contributing to her sons’ skin condition. She tried making her own soap and loved it! She always wanted a home-based business and soapmaking fit the bill.  Tawnya completed her Chartered Herbalist Course & Aromatherapy 101 Course to help develop her line of products. In 2006, Tawnya expanded the business by opening up her countryside soap shack, and the company now produces roughly 5000 soap bars a year, supplying bed and breakfasts, lodges, gift shops and private companies.

Tawnya will explain the soap making process and the different stages that are involved.  The first stage involves heating the oils and slowly adding lye water to the oils.  At this stage, herbs such as lavender and mint are added, clay is added for colour, grains for texture, and essential oils are added for scent.  The mixture is then poured into a mold and is left to harden overnight.  Once it has hardened, the soap is cut and is then cured for 3 weeks to 2 months.

Our ingredients include locally produced coffee, grains, beer, honey and goats milk!
Be sure to check our family garden with blueberries, strawberries, herbs & veggies…and our 5 beautiful backyard chickens - some of which lay green eggs!  Fresh garden veggies and certified organic blueberries will also be for sale.
