The leisurely self-guided Slow Food Cycle Tours provide an educational and culinary experience exploring many farms; some that are open to the public for this day only! The tours give a rare chance to meet the farmers and learn about agriculture in the spectacular Fraser Valley.
Support the Slow Food movement and our local Fraser Valley farmers. Agassiz and Chilliwack will feature farms that are unique to their areas so be sure to sign up for both cycle tours and spend the weekend at one of the comfortable Valley accommodations.
Both Slow Food Cycle Tours are perfect for families. The routes are around 25km and relatively flat. And best of all, kids 12 and under can-take part free of charge!
Welcome to Cap’s Westwood Cycle as our 2010 sponsor. Cap’s will be providing a bicycle for each tour as a prize for participants who register online. At their stores, they will be offering bike checks from Aug 1 onward up to a day before the event, including helmet checks (note helmet criteria is that the helmet can not be any older than 5 years as per Health Canada standards). They will also be on site to provide bike checks on each of the event days.
Cap’s Westwood Cycle is a family owned and operated business by Kelly and Glen Hobbis. Glen’s dad “Cap”, started the business in 1932 and Kelly and Glen carry on the family tradition in their Port Coquitlam Cap’s Westwood Cycle location and at their Westwood Cycle @ Rocky Point location in Port Moody. From tricycles to road bikes and everything in between, Westwood Cycle will look after all your cycling needs.
Net proceeds from our summer cycle tours of the Fraser Valley, along with donations from our Adopt-a-Farmer campaign, will be used to sponsor two young farmers to attend Terra Madre 2010. Click here to donate online now.
The idea of slow food has never been more important; global issues such as climate change make supporting our local food producers essential! The Fraser Valley is unique with its perfect climate, soil, and water conditions for agriculture. The Slow Food Cycle Tours are a wonderful opportunity to become familiar with an important resource - food! You will get to experience and taste local food products produced close to home, while getting to meet your local farmers.
