2010 Slow Food Vancouver Cycle Tours

August 21 & 22, 2010

featuring the Chehalis Traditional Salmon Feast on Saturday night. Cycle and learn more about where our food should come from.

Be a sponsor or volunteer to help organize the tours.  .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more information.  For three years, the tours have been organized by volunteers.  With over 1,500 people participating, the tours have reached the level where we need funding to pay for a coordinator.  Slow Food Vancouver wants to continue offering the tours, to offer them in other communities in Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley, and to expand the education and variety of agriculture shown.  Get on board.  Be a funding partner.

The Fraser Valley, with its rich soil and abundant rain fall, is considered to have some of the best growing conditions in the world.  This area comprises only 3 percent of farmland in the province of British Columbia, but produces over half of the province’s agricultural revenue.

The flat country roads that crisscross through Chilliwack and Agassiz make a for a perfect cycling territory.  The area is perfect for families with small children on trial-a-bikes, or for those who prefer a gently ride.  In August, the fields are lush with corn and produce is abundant.

Along the 25 km self-guided family oriented route with up to 10 designated stops at farms to meet the farmer and their produce or animals, possibly eat samples of their product prepared by a cook/chef, and even, at some stops, listen to musicians.  While enjoying the farm stops, you will also learn about how they produce the food you buy and eat. The cycle tour is a culinary event that links our land, the co-producers (slow food term for ‘consumers’) and the farmers and the food they produce in a very unique and fun way. Many of the farms visited are open only for this day and are not part of other events.

Come for the weekend.  Stay in Harrison or Chilliwack. Book now!
