“Young Friends of Good Food” Potluck on Sunday, February 10th, 2008 at 6pm. Winter Potluck

As convivium leader of Slow Food Vancouver, I am very interested in exploring ways to unite youth in the name of good, clean and fair food.  I would love to start a dialogue with you and your friends over a great potluck dinner.

SLOW FOOD in the U.S. recently announced the expansion of their Slow Food membership chapters to college and university campuses across the country. In response to demand from college aged students eager to get involved in the national conversation about food and the environment, Slow Food USA and its program Slow Food in Schools, is bringing together a diverse group of students who are passionate about food and sustainability issues. Slow Food on Campus chapters (called Campus Convivia) will hold events and conduct projects to engage the campus and larger community in dialogue about the state of the food system. By sharing the pleasures of the table and the garden with their classmates, these students will promote good, clean, and fair food on their college campuses.
Through the creation of Campus Convivia, students will educate their peers about food and sustainability, while learning about and impacting their regional food community. Members of Slow Food on Campus will initiate projects that reflect their concern for the social, environmental, and economic issues facing the food system; these projects might include organic garden planting, food policy study groups, dinners featuring endangered foods, or collaborations with campus food service about local and seasonal procurement.

The impact of this type of initiative reaches far beyond the dorm room and college green.  SLOW FOOD VANCOUVER would like to invite a new generation to the Slow Food table with the hope of galvanizing a new group of people in support of food that is good, clean, and fair.  Let’s start with a potluck!
