Winery Tour and Summer Solstice Potluck
Saturday, June 21, 2008
Celebrate the first day of summer with a visit to the lush, rolling farmlands of south Langley, followed by a potluck dinner at Peter and Sandra’s home.
We’ll start with a private tour and tasting at the award-winning Domaine de Chaberton Estate Winery at 1 pm. Cost is a modest $3.00, payable at the time of the tour. Then we’ll head just a little further down the road for a visit with Lee and Patrick Murphy at Vista D’Oro Farms, which is dedicated to producing heritage fruits, vegetables and herbs. We’ll stop by their charming farmgate shop to sample Lee’s jams and preserves, or pick up some tips from Patrick for growing heirloom tomatoes. Lee will be delighted to show off her teaching kitchen (which is where she also produces those delectable preserves). Weather permitting, we may also be able to tour their brand-new vineyard.
Vista D’Oro Farms Winery is committed to producing the highest quality infused fortified wines in British Columbia. Celebrating old world passion for respecting pure wine making techniques and uncompromised methods and traditions by producing the highest quality wines from their boutique winery. They want to share their signature walnut fortified wine with B.C. wine lovers. This unique family recipe for the walnut wine dates back to the French revolution with its first documented year of production of the wine in 1796 and was supplied by their friend and co-winemaker, Jerome Dudicourt. First Release – Walnut Wine 2008.
We will then all head off to Sandra and Peter’s home to welcome the new season with a late afternoon/early evening potluck dinner. They can accommodate 15 guests. Those who wish to drop off their potluck contributions beforehand are welcome to drop by their place early - before 12:30 pm. They’ll be happy to provide maps to their place and to and from the winery and Vista D’Oro when you RSVP. Please email Peter and Sandra at or . They’ll sort out the details of what to bring (appetizer, main course, dessert) individually.
THIS EVENT IS FULL! Due to the enthusiastic response we hope to repeat this event later in the summer or fall.
