People’s Food Policy project
PFPP Update
About 30 years ago, there was a remarkably innovative, national initiative that mobilized people from all parts of the food system, in a community-based exploration of what was wrong with the global food economy, and what could be done to correct it. At the end of it all, the People’s Food Commission produced a book called The Land of Milk and Money (available at: http://foodsecurecanada.org/the-peoples-food-policy-project). Its findings have an eerily contemporary ring, even today.
It is time to update the report. The first phase of the project is collecting policy ideas from diverse groups across Canada to be included in a comprehensive federal level food policy. In order for the first draft of the People’s Food Policy to reflect the breadth and depth of issues in our food system, we are asking that organizations contribute food policy ideas formed from the work you do. You may download in PDF format the policy proposal template and participation guide to help with this. This information is also available on the website.
The final version of the People’s Food Policy will be launched in November 2010 at the AGM of Food Secure Canada.
The website is now up (http://www.peoplesfoodpolicy.ca) and tells the full story, from the report (Land of Milk and Money) through to new pamphlets that describe the food sovereignty principles that we are working with, which shares stories from across Canada. You are able to download these pamphlets from the website to use within your organization.
Deadline for submissions is December 1, 2009.
