Skeeter Farm is looking for an additional farmer! We are three farmers starting our second season of chemical-free mixed vegetable farming on a beautiful piece of land sandwiched between mountains and rivers in Abbotsford. We have roughly two acres in production and sell our produce at farmers markets and also through a Community Supported Agriculture program. This year we are expanding our farm operation by adding a hoop house, growing a variety of new crops, and increasing our marketing efforts.
Our business is part of an ‘incubator farm’ project of the Barrowtown Agricultural Development Society. This means that there is a committee of people helping us manage the risks associated with starting a farm business. We are working together to explore ways of making it easier to become a farmer.
We are looking for an energetic individual with a strong work ethic and a desire to farm. Although we all help out with every farm task, we are looking for assistance with vegetable production/field work in particular. We would also welcome anyone interested in leading value-added product development (e.g. pickle production) and/or special events and promotions for the farm. We all have jobs in addition to our work with Skeeter Farm, so we are flexible about work arrangements. Previous experience in agriculture is not required.
