IN SEASON IN FEBRUARY

Oysters

Soup and sandwich… oysters and love. There is probably more written about the aphrodisiac qualities of oysters than any other food in the world. What better fare for February? It is said that Roman emperors sent slaves to the coast of England to gather them from the shores, and Casanova is reputed to have consumed 5 dozen every day to maintain his libido.

You cannot go wrong with raw oysters in February, fresh from the coast of BC. Serve simply with a classic sauce, like Mignonette, or eat them raw (in your saucy underwear) with a squirt of fresh lemon juice, or a splash of Worcestershire or Tabasco sauce.
