Click to Join Slow Food Slow Food is like the greenpeace of food.  We are an international organization building a network of small-scale sustainable farmers.  A recent UN report says,  “small-scale farmers can double food production in ten years using simple farming methods.”  And that we must increase global food production by 50 - 70% to meet the needs of the planets’ growing population expected to reach 9 billion by 2050.

Based on our efforts globally, more people have access to good, clean and fair food.

By joining Slow Food, you support a worldwide network of people committed to improving the way food is produced and distributed. 
And, our membership numbers locally support sending more delegates to Terra Madre - our biannual networking event where in 2010, Slow Food Vancouver sent 10 delegates to join with over 5,000 producers from over 150 countries to share their knowledge and experience.   

Terra Madre   gives a voice and visibility to the small-scale farmers, breeders, fishers and food artisans around the world whose approach to food production protects the environment and communities. The network brings them together with academics, cooks, consumers and youth groups to work together to improve the food system. 

Slow Food Vancouver wants to help send more small scale farmers to Terra Madre 2012 and also to host Terra Madre Canada.

The Slow Food manifesto makes mention to how “fast life has changed our way of being and threatens our environment and our landscapes”. Climate change is predicted to have a huge impact on food availability here in the Lower Mainland.
